[Video] / Robin gets her first Gym Badge
Right, I promised a couple of people I'd film Robin getting her gym badge so you lot can get a good idea of how tough it is.
I need to explain though, she says her pokemon didn't want to evolve yet. So they are actually tougher than they look. Which makes this video experiment less helpful than it was meant to be. Tch. [Smoker scowls.] I swear she did it on purpose.
[Robin gives him a look at that.] "Oh honestly." [She's muttering loud enough for Smoker to easily hear and even the camera to pick up on.]
All right, here we go. [Yup, ignoring the pirate and focusing on her pokemon. Obviously they're more important.]
[There's a wide shot of the Violet City Pokemon Gym. On the far end, blue-haired Falkner shouts something about bird pokemon and electric types. The camera pans smoothly to the other side of the gym and zooms in on Nico Robin, spinning two miniaturized pokeballs in her hand as she listens to the Gym Leader's taunt. She does not bother responding, only sends out her first pokemon with a tight smile.
A high-leveled Shinx.
The Shinx charges Falkner's Noctowl, small threads of electricity arcing through its fur. It leaps and checks the Noctowl with its shoulder, emitting a bright spark as the electricity is released. The Noctowl manages to pull of a Hypnosis, but the damage has been done. It can hardly stand. Robin returns the hypnotized Shinx to its pokeball and sends out a Magikarp. Noctowl tries to hypnotize the Magikarp as well, but the attack misses, and Magikarp leaps high and wallops the bird with its tail, knocking it out.
The next round pits Falkner's Honchkrow against Robin's Natu. The Honchkrow uses Swagger, confusing the little green bird. Robin takes this round as an opportunity to wake up her hypnotized Shinx. The Honchkrow attacks with its wings this time, and the Natu fights back with a Confuse Ray, though it seems a bit shaky itself. Robin calls the Natu back to its pokeball and sends out a Joltik. Honchkrow attacks again, but between the confusion and the Joltik's tiny size, it doesn't connect. The Joltik retaliates with a strong electric Discharge, and the Honchkrow goes down.
For the last round, Robin sends out another high-leveled first-evolution, a Vulpix. It's going up against Falkner's Pidgeot, which immediately launches into a full-on Tackle. Vulpix responds with a Flamethrower. Both pokemon face each other for a few moments, then the Pidgeot rushes in for another Tackle. Vulpix returns the blow with a Fire Blast, but misses. The Pidgeot creates a strong Gust which knocks the Vulpix back, but it comes back with another Fire Blast, and this time the Pidgeot is engulfed in flames.
Robin's smile is a little softer as she lets the rest of her pokemon out of their pokeballs to congratulate each other. Robin's Sentret runs over each of them once and then zips up to her shoulder while the others butt heads and paw at each other. Then they all share a look and then there's a multiple evolution party for everyone except Vulpix. And Smoker just facepalms.]
Sure. Now they all evolve.
